You read that title correctly: As of this fall, you’ll be able to get your hands on the first ever turbocharged Nissan Sentra.
Not even the Sentra SE-R Spec V from over a decade ago boasted a turbocharged mill -- and it wasn’t this powerful either. Nissan’s taking their usually subdued sedan and jacking it up a few dozen notches, and we know you’re going to love the result.
A Classic Nissan Gets an Extra Boost
So, which engine did Nissan decide to squeeze beneath the Sentra’s decidedly more mature and sculpted hood? Well, they’ve taken a 1.6L DIG that sports spray-coated and mirror-finished cylinders, along with a low-pressure cooled EGR system to better reduce friction and reduce weight. The result is a unit that produces 188 horsepower and 177 lb-ft of torque.
That’s a whole lot of ponies more than the 1.8L non-turbo unit that only produces 130 horsepower. And it’s even more power than the SE-R Spec V of days past.
Along with more power, the 2017 Nissan Sentra SR Turbo features a 370Z-inspired interior with silver trim and a leather-wrapped steering wheel you’ll immediately recognize from the Japanese automaker’s two-seater sports car. There are also SR Turbo exclusive seats that feature blue stitching, unique to this particular model.
A Sporty Redesign, Inside & Out
And it’s not just unique coloured stitching that sets the 2017 Sentra SR Turbo interior apart from the rest. There’s also an available 8-speaker Bose Premium Audio System that’s been custom-tuned specifically for the SR Turbo interior, along with available NissanConnect with navigation and mobile apps, all on an available 5.8” colour touchscreen. And it’s not all about entertainment; there are a host of safety features available in the 2017 Nissan Sentra SR Turbo such as Blind Spot Warning, and Rear Traffic Cross Alert.
Because Nissan’s Sentra is already so well liked, and is one of the manufacturer’s best-selling vehicles, it seems only natural that this first-ever turbocharged version is going to be just as popular, if not more so.
With more power, more design elements and decidedly more personality behind the wheel, we can’t wait to get a closer look at the 2017 Nissan Sentra SR Turbo, and we know you can’t either. So, make sure you head down to your local Stadium Nissan dealer today to speak to one of our experts. And while it’s not in showrooms yet, you’ll want to make sure you book a test drive as soon as they arrive later this fall.
