Nissan Altima, Rogue and Maxima earn IIHS Top Safety Pick Plus ratings

Three new 2017 Nissan models were given a Top Safety Pick Plus rating by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) this month.

The all-new 2017 Nissan Rogue along with the redesigned Nissan Altima and Nissan Maxima received the highest safety rating given by the IIHS after scoring a “Good” rating in all five safety tests along with a rating of “Advanced” or “Superior” for their crash prevention technologies.

Plenty of safety in 2017 Nissan vehicles

The 2017 Nissan Pathfinder received a Top Safety Pick rating along with the Nissan Sentra and Nissan Murano.

To receive the TSP+ rating, a vehicle must receive a score of “Good” in every IIHS evaluation. These include small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side and roof strength, along with standard or optional front crash prevention.

"Nissan is proud to have many of our North American-built vehicles recognized by IIHS for vehicle safety," said Michael Bunce, vice president, Product Strategy and Planning, Nissan North America, Inc. (NNA). "As a full-line manufacturer, Nissan places the safety and security of Nissan vehicle owners and their passengers as its top priority. Considering that 85-percent of the vehicles we sell in the U.S. are assembled in North America, we are gratified to see the company's long-term investment in safety yielding results in these key vehicles receiving high marks from IIHS."

The IIHS’ safety tests highlight Nissan’s impressive set of active and passive safety features that include dual stage supplemental front air bags with seat belt sensors and an occupant classification sensor, front seat-mounted side impact supplemental air bags, and roof-mounted curtain supplemental side-impact air bags for front-and rear-seat outboard occupant head protection.

Active safety features include Predictive Forward Collision Warning (PFCW), Intelligent Cruise Control (ICC), Forward Emergency Braking (FEB), Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) and Blind Spot Warning (BSW).
